Reply Assist (Commitment Loop) ​

Reply Assist watches the chat apps you already use, and when someone asks you to do something, it quietly drafts your reply and offers it to you — so nothing slips through the cracks. You stay in control: it never sends anything on your behalf. It just has the answer ready the moment you turn back to the conversation.

This is one of the ways Violoop helps before you ask. A colleague messages "can you send me the Q3 deck?" — by the time you click back into that chat, Violoop has already drafted the reply (or found the file), waiting one keystroke away.

Currently macOS only. Reply Assist is available on Mac today; support for other platforms is on the way. The one-time setup for Mac — permissions and per-app steps — lives in Reply Assist · macOS Setup.

How it works, in one picture ​

  1. Someone sends you a request in a chat app (Lark/Feishu, WeChat, Superhuman…).
  2. Violoop notices it, understands it's a real ask (not small talk), and — using your assistant's memory — drafts a reply.
  3. When you click back into that exact conversation and pause on the empty message box, a small chip appears with the suggested reply.
  4. Press Tab to drop the draft into the message box. Read it, edit if you like, then you press Enter to send.
  5. Not useful? Press Esc and it goes away.

The golden rule: Violoop drafts, you send. It will never hit Enter for you.

What you'll need ​

  • Be logged in to Violoop. Signed out, the quality drops sharply — it can only do a rough English/Chinese keyword match instead of really understanding the message.
  • A recent device firmware. Very old device software won't have this feature at all; update the device if the toggle seems to do nothing (see Settings → Version & Update).
  • The macOS one-time setup. A few system permissions and small per-app steps let Violoop notice incoming messages and read which conversation you're looking at — see Reply Assist · macOS Setup.

Turning it on ​

Reply Assist is off by default. To enable it:

Settings → Assistant Intelligence → Proactive, and turn on the commitment / Reply Assist switch.

That's the one and only switch — it lives on your device, so the setting travels with the device, not with one computer. The moment it's on, Violoop's watchers wake up; turn it off and they go quiet.

Group chats: teach it your name ​

In a group chat, most messages aren't for you. Reply Assist already tries to skip messages that only @ other people — but it does this best when it knows what you're called.

In the Proactive settings, fill in your name and any nicknames people use for you. Then a message that @s only someone else is filtered out right away, and you only get drafts for things actually aimed at you. (Messages that @ everyone still come through.)

If you find it's drafting replies to messages meant for other people, adding your names/aliases here is the fix.

Why it sometimes stays quiet — by design ​

Reply Assist is deliberately cautious: it would rather miss one than nag you with ten. So it stays silent in cases like these — all intentional, not bugs:

  • Small talk. "What's for lunch?" isn't a request, so no draft.
  • Messages meant for other people in a group chat (see above).
  • When it doesn't actually know the answer. If a request needs a fact your assistant doesn't have yet — say your company address — it won't invent one. Tell Violoop the fact once (so it lands in memory) and it'll be ready next time.
  • "Send me the X file" with nothing found. For file requests it searches your computer; if nothing matches, it stays quiet rather than guessing. Make sure the file is somewhere searchable and that system search (Spotlight) is on.
  • You switched away. If you click into a different conversation before pressing Tab, the draft is held back so it can't land in the wrong chat.

Do Not Disturb / Focus modes don't turn it off — your messages are still noticed quietly in the background.

Privacy & what it touches ​

  • It never sends messages for you. Every draft waits for you to press Enter. The most it will do on its own is place text (or a found file) into your message box.
  • It's scoped to the chat apps you allow — a short watch-list you control (by default Lark, WeChat, Superhuman). Apps outside that list are ignored entirely.
  • Screen-reading is off unless you turn it on. There's an optional "screen perception" mode for cold starts that reads the screen more actively; it's off by default.
  • Everything runs against your own device's memory and account — the same private, personal foundation as the rest of Violoop.
  • You can pause the whole thing anytime with the single switch under Settings → Assistant Intelligence → Proactive.

Troubleshooting ​

No chip ever appears.

  • Check the switch is on: Settings → Assistant Intelligence → Proactive.
  • Make sure you're logged in.
  • Confirm the macOS permissions are granted — see Reply Assist · macOS Setup.
  • If the toggle seems to do nothing at all, your device software may be too old — update it under Settings → Version & Update.

It's quiet for a specific message.

  • Was it actually a request, or small talk? Small talk is skipped on purpose.
  • In a group, was it @ing you? Add your name/aliases in Proactive settings if your messages are being filtered.
  • Does answering need a fact Violoop doesn't have? Tell it that fact once so it's remembered.

A chip won't appear for a specific app, or the draft won't drop in when I press Tab.
